应我校水资源与环境学院郭华明教授邀请，德国美因茨大学Michael Kersten教授将来我校进行学术交流，并作学术报告。Michael Kersten教授是国际环境地球化学领域最著名科学家之一。他在生物地球化学微观机理的理论和实验方面做了大量开拓性工作，如元素形态对界面过程的影响等。他的研究揭示了重金属在含水层矿物表面的热力学原理、水-岩相互作用中痕量元素的微观行为，实现了分子水平上的生物地球化学过程和机理的定量分析。在以上研究领域，发表学术论文200余篇（包括PNAS 1篇，Environ. Sci. Technol. >10篇，Geochim. Cosmochim. Acta 3篇），h指数为30。目前，Kersten教授是国际著名SCI学术期刊Applied Geochemistry主编。 时间：2024年11月25日 上午10:00-12:00 地点：逸夫楼716 题目：How to publish in an international journal and avoid common mistakes 摘要：This seminar is aimed at understanding how and what editors and publishers of international research journals expect from authors. The ideas presented on how the submission and peer review process works may give invaluable insights, which may help to optimize own submissions. After attending this seminar, participants will have a clear idea of the steps need to be taken before submitting a paper. Participants will be made aware of what parts of their paper editors look at most critically before deciding whether to send out for peer review or to desk-reject already before review. This may help to ensure that when taking care of these potential issues, submissions are more likely to be processed and eventually accepted. Known issues like polishing the English by using AI tools, selecting the right journal, writing up an attractive cover letter, selecting the right reviewers, and others less known to the community are tackled. Dealing with the revision process and referees’ comments as well as the art of polite rebuttal letter writing are also discussed to improve acceptance of the submitted paper after revision. These intimate insights from an experienced editors’ perspective will enable the participants to become more confident in the world of science publishing, and help them to get their papers published with higher impact. After the end of the presentation, there will be enough time left for specific case questions from the audience to be discussed.
